Jeffrey P. Winer, PhD, is an Attending Psychologist, behavioral health systems consultant, treatment developer, and researcher at the Boston Children’s Hospital Trauma and Community Resilience Center (BCH TCRC) and an Instructor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Winer’s work is primarily focused on developing, disseminating, and implementing culturally-responsive & trauma-informed psychological interventions for youth and families of refugee and immigrant backgrounds. The values of social justice, equity, and human rights are at the center of this work.
He is the past recipient of a Thrasher Research Fund Early Career Award, and has been an investigator on grants funded by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network/SAMHSA, the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and Public Safety Canada, among others.
He is a member of the Trauma Systems Therapy and Trauma Systems Therapy for Refugees model development teams and has served as site PI or Co-PI on multiple large-scale site implementations of Trauma Systems Therapy for Refugees (TST-R), a psychotherapy and behavioral health organizational model for refugee/immigrant youth and families. He is co-author with Dr. Heidi Ellis and Dr. Saida Abdi of “Mental Health Practice with Immigrant and Refugee Youth” published by the American Psychological Association in 2019.
He has provided consultation and training to behavioral health providers and programs across the United States and Canada. Mental health prevention and intervention protocols and intervention tools that he has helped develop, adapt, or refine are currently used around the world.
Outside of his work at Boston Children’s Hospital he continues to provide consultation at the McLean Hospital 3East Adolescent DBT Partial Hospital, Co-Directs McLean Hospital’s Multicultural Psychology Consultation Team (MPCT), and maintains a private practice focused on culturally-responsive evidence-based psychotherapy for youth, adults, and families.
His wife is also a psychologist and they have two awesome daughters.
